Perversity: Ablaze

03/11/11  ||  Smalley

Cool band name here for once, and the Goth-y, symphonic-y, atmospheric intro track here was kind of nice, but when the actual metal instruments started playing, some of ‘em had this weird vibe, like they were pathetic, underpowered, “kiddie” versions of the real thing or something. Ew. I guess the rhythm guitar sound is better (though still a bit shitty), but the actual death/thrash/groove-y riffs failed completely get me head a-movin’.

The growling’s okay, but the entire seemed disorganized, confused, and sloppy, and it also seems like the band cut-and-pasted a few song ideas over multiple tracks. It’s also pretty clunky & awkward; listening to it, sometimes I get the mental picture of the end of that Family Guy anthology, the last one before they were first cancelled, where the rest of the family has donated various body parts to Peter after he lost all his bones in that final genie-wish, and they’re walking around crooked and lumpy and bloated. Yeah, kinda like that. Still, this isn’t really horrible, but almost as inoffensively forgettable as stubs get, so you can just…

4.5/10: …fuhget about it!
