Moror: Abyss
09/01/14 || gk
The debut album from this Ukranian band and “Abyss” is pretty basic modern metalcore. Breakdowns, growled verses, clean and melodic choruses; there really isn’t a lot here that’s original. Moror does manage to occasionally break free from the constraints of this sub-genre and it is when they do, that the band sounds quite interesting. A few times on the album, the band manage to get pretty damn heavy and shed the groove and core for some solid death metal. They sound quite powerful doing that but for the majority of the album it’s still groove metal with an over reliance on breakdowns.
Still, Moror’s “Abyss” is better than a lot of the over produced shit floating out there in the universe.
6.5/10: Generic groove/ core with moments of promise
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
