Lustre: Wonder

13/09/13  ||  sincan

Well hello there perineum lovers! it is time for an upcoming album by the one man project Lustre released on, the by now, enormously famous record label Nordvis. Yeah guys and you other species, it’s correct, we have another album containing the Swedish melancholy all dressed up as atmospheric/ambient black metal.

Well, I guess I have to say this relatively early: This record is not for everyone. For instance, if you only can appreciate super fast and technical metal which knocks you out by its enormous power, this is not for you. However, when I’m the world president, I will promote slower, saturnine and beautiful music as well, like this album.

The music on this record can roughly be described as a mixture of Burzum’s “Filosofem” and Velvet Cacoon’s “Genevieve” by its hypnotic repetitiveness, relatively lo-fi synths, riffs being reverbed almost beyond recognition and vocals of indistinguishable lyrics. Two tracks are with vocals and two are instrumental ones, however the difference is not that large since the vocals almost can be counted as just another dimension of used instruments in this case. This ends up in a rich and organic soundscape, thus not the typical harsh’n‘cold black metal of frozen man juice.

The album consists of four tracks of which all are about ten minutes each. The lengths of the tracks are well chosen, not too short and nor too long of which the latter often can ruin the interest. I would say that it still is easy to feel a bit slumberous, but not because of boredom. This is a result from the successful hypnotic atmosphere which either suits for having in the background while writing manifests about how cool it is to listen to extreme metal (i.e. defending your virginity) or when being absorbed with closed eyes and other blocked senses, which we all love so much (while being totally shitfaced).

The timing for the release of this album couldn’t be better, especially in the parts of the world where the autumn gives room for horrible weather and cozy indoor activities such as listening to music while being angry with the weather, job or/and the cat/dog/sheep/leprechaun. So place yourself in your skeleton throne, wrap yourself into the pink (no, not pussy) blanket and gaze upon your rainy/snowy lands.
