Lurk: Kaldera
09/02/14 || Cobal
Lurk are a Finnish metal act that practice a hybrid form of death doom metal with a strong 70’s vibe. If anything I enjoyed myself discovering how these guys disguise—see?—Iommi-inspired riffs as badass slow motion death metal. Now, with such influence, it’s easy to guess that they at least attempt to write their songs well, and that’s saying a fucken lot nowadays. Anyway, I’m always happy to listen to bands that are aware of where everything came to motion. The problem is exactly like Robert Bartleh Cummings said once: Black Sabbath already played every single good riff ever; faster, slower or backwards, they already did it all. And before you start bitching, that was paraphrasing, not a quote, skank. Regardless, I’d recommend “Kaldera” to anyone who likes their doom death-flavored and don’t mind getting harshy shouted vocals instead of regular growls. Cast a glance yourself. Cheers.
7/10: Probably higher when they find a sound of their own.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
