Immolation: Providence
11/10/11 || Lord K Philipson
I probably mentioned this before, but fuck that. Here goes: I never understood Immolation. I never took a liking in them. I never heard what people said was so special about their death metal. To me they would always be a second grade American death metal act I would never give 2 shits about.
Until I fucken toured with the guys a few years back, helping Sweden’s Grave out on guitar.
During that tour I “got it”. Immolation’s one fucken unique death metal band by all means. There’s not one single band that sounds like them, and that is not a common thing these days. When you hear them, you know it’s Immolation. The intricate and weird-ass riffs courtesy of Mr. Vigna together with Mr. Dolan’s awesome grunts is a recipe for success. “Providence” is their latest EP, and I believe they just scored their best production to date with this one (Immolation’s productions have always been kinda weird to me, further adding to their unique sound when I think about it).
Not only are some of these guys the coolest fucken people you could ever meet, they are also irritatingly underrated. In (close to) a world (below) where the tiresome “harder” music of today steals the limelight (hello American plague metal), Immolation continue to walk their own path, on their own terms, with their own amazing brand of death metal. I can do nothing but applaud them. Get a free, legal taste of “Providence” right here.
I am so looking forward to the next full-length. It will fucken crush.
8/10: And as if the music isn’t enough, once again they hand out some of the best album art around. That is some glorious shit right there.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
