Diablo: EterniumDiablo: Eternium

03/05/06  ||  Statik Majik

I hope your earlier albums are at least remotely as good as this one is, because those ones are next on my “need-to-buy” list.

With those words I ended my review of Diablo’s latest effort, “Mimic47”. And now I’ve done what I said I would: I went and bought the predecessor to “Mimic47”. And I’m more than happy to say that – yes, “Eternium” is remotely as good as their latest release. Actually not even remotely, it’s equal to it. After few listens I think I can be as bold as to say that it’s even better.

First of all, I’m not even sure what to say about this band and this release without repeating the same fucken facts I already stated in the “Mimic47” review. All the aspects I love about Diablo are here as well; massive guitars, catchy riffs, aggressive vocals, energetic drumming, killer production… You know the drill.

Seriously, the only difference between their latest two releases is that “Eternium” might be a bit slower and just an ounce more melodic. But only for a half spoonful, you know. Generally speaking, the tracks are as heavy as it gets, but there are slower parts on few tracks (“Queen of entity”, “Lovedivided” and “Omerta”) that are not present on their latest effort. I think that’s a positive thing, because those sections gives a neat contrast to the overall sound and make this stand out a bit compared to their latest album.

There’s a vague Metallica-vibe present on this album, I might add. And I mean it in a good way. Take the best damn parts from “Master of puppets” and imagine those played by today’s metal-standards. For example, “Omerta” feels like a modern-day version of “Orion”. Yup, it’s instrumental. And fortunately a bit shorter too. And it fucken rocks, like everything on this disc. “In flesh”, and the beginning of “Shape shifters” on the other hand are something you could expect to find on some Pantera-albums. I don’t think I need to throw in any more comparisons in order to point out the obvious: These nutcases play heavy fucken metal. And do it extremely well, that’s for sure.

If you appreciate good metal, I urge you to pay a visit to your local record-store. Buy “Eternium”. And “Mimic47” if you haven’t done so already. I guarantee it, you won’t be disappointed.

And what do you know, since “Eternium” is better than “Mimic47”, there’s only one logical score to give:

9 /10.
