Degradation: Juggernaut
06/02/12 || revenant
A few month back when I reviewed Injury, I stated that “there’s a chance for another great thrash debut in 2011, I want to know about it”. I’m not sure if Degradation read those words and backed themselves by sending their debut to GD, or if it’s pure fucken coincidence and would have arrived anyway, but here’s yet another debut thrash release from 2011 that’s worth checking out. Not, mind you, in the “great” category, but still a well executed, fast, catchy album with a similar sound to the new Evile album. There’s some excellent tracks here, from the Metallica-esque title track to my personal favourite “Trail of Sin”. The problem is, though, at only 31 minutes long with a sound that’s been done a hundred times already, I just stop thinking “Is that it? Is that all you’ve got?”. This is a solid start to a career, but in a genre as crowded as thrash is right now, it’s a matter of what this band can do to make themselves stand out in the future that will be important.
6/10 – solid catchy stuff, but more is needed for this band to be significant.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
