Apocryfal: Ravens
09/03/12 || gk
Apocryfal is a new death metal band from Finland and Ravens is the bands first 3 song demo released in January this year. It feels like I’ve been listening to a lot of death metal demos lately and these guys are pretty good. The songs here tend to have a bit of groove to them and its not all mindless blasting often taking a break from ultra fast brutality to short mid paced segments that work well. It helps that the band has a pretty good drummer who can blast and lay down a solid groove as well. The music is pretty standard and owes more to the Floridan death metal scene than the bands Finnish roots and the vocalist is a bit too gurgly and loud in the mix for my liking but its 3 songs in just over 10 minutes so its decent, relentless fun. Too generic to really be recommended, but they can only get better with time.
6/10 with hope for the future
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
