Anthrax: Anthems

Under the covers with Anthrax.

OK, now they have done it! Anthrax release a six-tracker with covers and two versions of “Crawl”, their latest single. Cover albums is for me a two-sided thing. Either you get something cool with versions that is rearranged to the max or you get some songs with nothing special, just a remake. This is the one with remakes, and I can’t for the love of doG understand why you should do it? First of all, they have chosen songs that are not that unique, I mean how many times can you record “T.N.T.” or “Jailbreak” and come out as a musical genius? 10 out of 10 times you can’t do those songs better than the original, they could of picked out some songs that everybody haven’t listened to a gazillion times before.

But there are some facts that can’t be ignored though.

Joey Belladonna sings really good, and he changes his voice to fit the songs, I didn’t know he was that capable. The performance is übertight and they play everything superb. The production is also really over the top. But in the end of the day, there is nothing here to work up a boner about.

4/10: Time to take out the trash and bring some thrash.
