Amaranthe: Amaranthe

24/11/11  ||  Lord K Philipson

I absolutely despise most of the modern “metal” bands with dual vocalists and the fucken pop-oriented style they use. It has very, very little to do with what’s “metal” for me. Amaranthe is right up there with all of them, with the small exception these fuckos are not content with the dual vocal approach so they use 3 singers. Yes, three. 2 clean ones and one “harsh”. You know what that means. 2 of them I could care less about, but the one remaining is what makes this band listenable.

Her name is Elize.

Of course a girl saves the fucken day. You pervert. Had she not been in this band I would have pissed all over this CD while lumping them together with the hideous colleagues Dead By April and Sonic Syndicate (among others). But thanx to Elize I can stand this band all fine. She’s got a great tone and she’s definitely able to nail some sweet high notes with a passion, as shown at 0:48 in this clip. I will always love her for that.

No, you prolly won’t like what Amaranthe’s got to offer, we already know that. Just click this link and tell me I am fucken right. But let’s be honest here, you like this more than you are willing to admit, right? Those Darkthrone shirts you wear aren’t fooling anyone. Catchy, female vocal lines and choruses will always work with me. Also, “Call out my name” could have been a E-Type song, minus the screamy shit vocals. I am not sure that is a good thing, then again – it might be. Everyone loves E-type. For obvious reasons. That guy is fucken metal. He used to play drums for Hexenhaus (most known for having the same cover on one of their albums as Morbid Angel used 3 years later) or something at an early stage, you know.

By the way, if you wanna read an almost-as-good-a-review-as-mine of this album, though he’s not exactly agreeing with me on this band, head over to Angry Metal Guy and get some more valuable opinions. Yes, I just plugged his website. I do that to people I do not think are complete idiots.

Anyways, what it comes down to is this… I like Amaranthe quite a bit. All thanx to Elize and the metal cheese. A small pointer to her though: ditch the 2 other singing assholes and get that solo career going already. I can write the music and everything will be perfect. You could need a little Satan in your life.
